India’s microdrama platform Story TV, part of the Eloelo Group, has announced its largest regional content expansion yet by entering South India with a strong focus on original vertical-format series in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
The move is driven by the platform’s belief that regional-language storytelling will fuel the next stage of growth in India’s mobile entertainment market. Story TV believes premium vertical content can reach its true potential only through original narratives created in local languages. With its vibrant film industries and highly engaged digital audiences, South India offers an ideal environment for this strategy.
As part of its long-term roadmap, Story TV plans to produce more than 1,000 original South Indian microdramas by March 2027. The platform will collaborate with writers, directors, actors, and other creative professionals from across the southern states to develop original intellectual property tailored to each language and market. This initiative aligns with its vision of becoming India’s leading destination for premium vertical storytelling rooted in regional culture, language, and audience preferences.
The Tamil content lineup features several prominent names from the film and television industries, including director Alagar (Saravanan Meenatchi), cinematographer Laxman Kumar (Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu), Mahanathi Shankar (Dheena), Kumaran Thangarajan (Pandian Stores, Kumarasambavam), Jey Srinivas (Varisu), Ramji (Ramany vs Ramani), along with Siragadikka Aasai actors Preetha Jenarthanan and Yuhani Shree.
For Telugu audiences, the platform has partnered with notable industry professionals such as director Ajju (One Last Ride) and Nandi Award-winning cinematographer Om Prakash, recognised for television serials including Swathi Chinukulu and Ruthuragalu. The lineup also features actors including Charan Lakkaraju (Temporary Roommates), Raj (Bigg Boss Telugu), Anvitha (Devayani), Visalakshi (Lakshmi Nivasam), Raksha (Guppedantha Manasu), Rohith (Abhishekam), and Monika (Padmavathi Kalyanam).
The expansion is already showing promising results. Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kochi rank among the platform’s highest-performing cities in South India, while users across the region spend an average of 95 minutes each day watching content on Story TV.
Commenting on the expansion, GSN Aditya, Chief Operating Officer of Story TV, said that entertainment consumption has increasingly shifted to mobile devices, with audiences preferring content they can quickly binge-watch in their own language and cultural context. He noted that microdrama has emerged as one of the most exciting storytelling formats in India, creating fresh opportunities for creative professionals to produce diverse and locally relevant stories.
Aditya further stated that South India plays a pivotal role in the company’s growth strategy due to its rich storytelling heritage and highly engaged viewers. He added that Story TV aims to strengthen the local creative ecosystem by investing in original multilingual content and enhancing the quality of premium vertical storytelling. According to him, the work produced in the region will serve as a model for expanding the format across the rest of the country.
Story TV’s initial catalogue of South Indian productions has already generated more than 250 million views. Popular titles on the platform include Vaarasudu Vacchadu, Paper Wife Bathiladi, VIP Card, Billionaire Maid, and Srimanthudu, among others.
The expanded content slate will cover multiple genres, including romance, family drama, thrillers, revenge stories, comedy, and emotionally driven narratives, with each production tailored to regional audience preferences. The platform also plans to continuously add Kannada and Malayalam originals as it grows its catalogue. Through this expansion, Story TV aims to extend premium vertical storytelling to audiences across India’s major regional markets, with additional original titles, language offerings, and creative collaborations expected to be announced in the coming months.
