Starlink has officially launched its satellite internet service in Bangladesh. While a rollout in India is expected soon, the pricing in Bangladesh offers valuable clues about what Indian consumers might expect. Unfortunately, the cost structure suggests that Starlink may remain out of reach for most middle-class users, particularly in the residential segment, where fiber broadband is significantly more affordable.

Starlink Pricing in Bangladesh (Converted to INR)
- Standard Kit: BDT 47,000 (approx. ₹32,922)
- Shipping & Handling: BDT 2,800 (approx. ₹1,961)
- Total Initial Hardware Cost: BDT 49,800 (approx. ₹34,883)
This amount does not include the cost of a monthly internet plan.
- Residential Plan: BDT 6,000/month (approx. ₹4,202)
- Residential Lite Plan: BDT 4,200/month (approx. ₹2,941)
Users must activate a plan within 30 days of delivery, so the effective upfront cost for a new Starlink user in Bangladesh is nearly ₹39,000, including the hardware and one month of service.
Affordability Concerns and India’s Market Dynamics
Given these rates, Starlink is unlikely to appeal to the average household in Bangladesh—and likely not in India either—where fiber and air-based broadband connections are widely available at 70–80% lower costs.
In India, Starlink might explore slightly subsidized pricing through partnerships with telecom providers or aim for scale-based pricing adjustments. However, even with minor reductions, the service will still remain a premium offering.
Conclusion: Fiber Remains the Smarter Choice
While Starlink could serve niche use cases in remote or underserved areas, fiber and AirFiber connections will continue to be far more economical for most Indian consumers. Unless there’s a significant drop in pricing, Starlink is unlikely to gain mass traction in the residential market.
