Fifty-four villages in Mizoram remain without mobile and internet access, according to the state’s ICT minister

Mizoram has 54 villages without mobile or internet connectivity, including 21 that are currently uninhabited, the state’s ICT minister informed the assembly, citing Department of Telecommunications data. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is installing mobile towers in 14 villages under the 4G saturation project as part of efforts to meet the Centre’s goal of connecting all villages by 2029. The state has also signed an MoU with the Bhashini app to add the Mizo language to the central government’s platform. 

Mizoram has 54 villages that still lack access to mobile networks and internet services, the state’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) minister informed the legislative assembly, referring to figures provided by the Department of Telecommunications.

In response to a query, the minister stated that 21 of these 54 villages are presently uninhabited. He further noted that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is in the process of setting up mobile towers in 14 villages as part of the 4G saturation initiative.

Addressing supplementary questions, he said the central government has formulated a plan to provide mobile and internet connectivity to every village in the country by 2029. According to him, BSNL is actively working in Mizoram to help achieve this objective. He also mentioned that the state government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bhashini app to incorporate the Mizo language into the platform developed by the central government.
