Reliance Jio claims its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service, JioAirFiber 5G internet, is spearheading the digital revolution in Punjab by enhancing connectivity in both urban centers and remote rural areas. Citing data from Statista, Jio noted that India’s internet penetration rose to over 52% in 2024, up from just 14% in 2014. The telecom giant attributes this growth to the Digital India initiative, stating that JioAirFiber is playing a pivotal role in transforming digital access across Punjab, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Connecting Border Villages in Punjab
Jio highlighted that India’s digital population had reached 806 million active users as of February 2025, with the company handling nearly 60% of the country’s mobile data traffic since its launch. In Punjab, Jio said it is solving the “last-mile connectivity” problem by extending AirFiber services to remote border villages like Manwal Mangwal, Dera Baba Nanak, and Kalewala. These areas, once plagued by poor internet infrastructure, are now integrated into the digital mainstream with high-speed 5G connectivity.
Transforming Rural Lives Through 5G
Jio emphasized that the availability of fast and reliable internet through JioAirFiber is significantly improving quality of life in rural Punjab. In education, students now have access to online classes and digital learning resources. Healthcare facilities can conduct virtual consultations and maintain digital patient records. In agriculture, farmers benefit from real-time weather data, market insights, and modern farming techniques. Entertainment consumption has also seen a boost, with residents enjoying smooth video streaming, online gaming, and social networking. Furthermore, enhanced internet access is enabling remote work and online upskilling, contributing to a more digitally equipped workforce.
Affordable Plans Tailored for Rural India
To ensure inclusivity, Jio stated that it has developed affordable AirFiber plans designed specifically for low- and middle-income households in rural regions. “People across Punjab can now experience a truly digital life,” the company said, adding that Jio remains committed to driving innovation and bridging the digital divide. With JioAirFiber, the company believes Punjab is not just keeping pace with digital progress—it is setting the pace.
