T-Mobile and Starlink Propose Hybrid Broadband Solutions for Businesses

Summary:
T-Mobile and Starlink have launched “SuperBroadband,” a managed hybrid service that combines 5G and satellite connectivity, with flexible configurations including wired, 5G, and satellite layers for improved reliability and performance. Aimed at businesses across the U.S., the solution offers nationwide coverage, simplified billing, and centralized network management, with pricing starting at $250 per month under various plans. While it enhances connectivity for sectors like healthcare and retail, the service requires a 36-month commitment and may face speed variations or additional charges based on usage.

T-Mobile and Starlink have introduced “SuperBroadband,” a hybrid connectivity solution that combines 5G and satellite internet, using 5G as the main link and satellite as a backup. The service can also be configured with a wired connection as the primary link, 5G as a secondary backup, and satellite as a third layer, while also enabling traffic distribution between networks to improve performance.

The companies state that integrating T-Mobile’s 5G network with Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite coverage allows businesses across all U.S. ZIP codes to access reliable connectivity, with sectors such as healthcare, retail, and energy among the key targets. The offering builds on their existing collaboration in direct-to-device (D2D) services for mobile users, though there are currently no plans to extend SuperBroadband to residential customers.

SuperBroadband is delivered as a fully managed service with a single contract and billing system, simplifying connectivity for multi-location enterprises. It is supported by T-Mobile’s T-Platform monitoring system and managed through Ericsson’s NetCloud Manager for centralized control of networking equipment. Additional ecosystem partners, including Inseego, are expected, while Acuative will handle nationwide deployment and field support. Early adopters include Aramark Destinations and Columbia Sportswear, with the latter highlighting the financial impact of network outages in retail operations.

Pricing for SuperBroadband starts at $250 per month, along with a device connection fee, and includes unlimited 5G data, backup satellite data, enterprise-grade equipment, installation, and monitoring. The service is offered in multiple plans—Standard, Enhanced, and Advanced—tailored to business needs, with higher tiers providing features such as outdoor 5G hardware, advanced routing, and upgraded satellite equipment. However, the service requires a 36-month contract, with early termination penalties. Speeds may vary during network congestion, and additional charges apply if usage exceeds specified data thresholds, with data allowances shared across multiple business locations where applicable.
