LG Innotek Unveils Advanced 5G Automotive Satellite Module for High-Bandwidth Connectivity

LG Innotek has introduced a next-generation automotive 5G communication module that significantly enhances satellite-based broadband connectivity. With support for approximately 30MHz bandwidth, this new module marks a major leap from earlier NB-NTN (Narrowband – Non-Terrestrial Network) versions, which were restricted to just 0.2MHz and suitable only for low-data-rate services.

The third-generation module is built to the latest 3GPP Release 17 standard, extending 5G capabilities to non-terrestrial networks. It is designed to support a range of advanced vehicle functions, including real-time emergency alerts, over-the-air (OTA) updates for autonomous driving systems, and high-quality transmission of voice and video media.

Engineered for global compatibility, the module supports cross-border and multi-network connectivity, making it ideal for vehicles operating in remote, mountainous, or disaster-prone areas where traditional terrestrial signals may not reach.

Mass production is scheduled for Q1 2026, and LG Innotek is currently in discussions with leading automotive OEMs in North America and Japan. “Vehicular communication modules are a core focus area for LG Innotek’s automotive components business, alongside automotive lighting,” said Byaeng Kuk Yoo, Senior Vice President of LG Innotek’s Automotive Components Business Unit.

“We aim to grow this into a $800 million business by consistently introducing innovative solutions that deliver unique value to our customers.”
